Dr. Nicholas Chinskey joined NJRetina in 2016.  Dr. Chinskey received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, graduating summa cum laude with high honors in biology.  He then attended the University of Michigan Medical School on the Hyman Oren Memorial Scholarship. Dr. Chinskey graduated with honors in research and in clinical skills and the art of medicine, given to the top 10% of students based on clinical performance.

Dr. Chinskey completed his ophthalmology residency training at the University of Michigan’s Kellogg Eye Center.  He then completed a two-year fellowship in medical and surgical retina at The Retina Institute (formerly Barnes Retina Institute) in St. Louis, Missouri–one of the premier training programs in the country.

Dr. Chinskey has lectured at several national and international meetings including the American Society of Retina Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Retina Society and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.  He has also published extensively on such topics as ocular trauma, retinal detachment, macular degeneration, dome-shaped macula and retinal neuroprotection. Dr. Chinskey has received numerous research accolades including a National Eye Institute travel grant, George Slocum Research Award and Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons resident paper competition award.  He has served as a peer reviewer for both Retina and Graefe’s Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology.

 

Dr. Chinskey is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, is currently a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society.  He is on the medical staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ and Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, NJ. Dr. Chinskey is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in the department of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Chinskey is married with two children.  He enjoys spending time with his family as well as skiing, mountain biking and hiking.
