Dr. Christopher M. Seery joined NJRetina in 1998. He is a fellowship-trained and board-certified Ophthalmologist in New Jersey specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal vascular disease, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal detachment.

Dr. Seery obtained his undergraduate degree at St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, NJ. He was awarded his MD degree from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, Newark. Dr. Seery completed his residency in ophthalmology at Columbia University, St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City, where he was Chief Resident.

He was a fellow in Ophthalmology and chief fellow in Vitreoretinal Disease and Surgery at Retina Associates and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston. Dr. Seery completed a research fellowship at the Eye Research Institute of the Retina Foundation and Harvard Medical School. He was Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School from 1988 to 1992.

Dr. Seery serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Society to Prevent Blindness, New Jersey Chapter. He is Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark, NJ. Dr. Seery was Director of Residency Training and Directory of the Retina Vitreous Service at UMDNJ from 1992 to 1998 and he is currently on the medical staff of Clara Maass Medical Center, St. Barnabas Medical Center, Hackensack University Medical Centers and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Dr. Seery has researched, published, and lectured at national meetings on numerous topics in ophthalmology, including retinal vascular disease, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal detachment. He has extensive involvement with numerous multi-center clinical trials studying macular degeneration, retinopathy of prematurity, diabetic retinopathy, ocular trauma, and vitreous biochemistry and physiology.

Dr. Seery has been married to wife Joan since 1985, and they have three beautiful children. He is an avid sportsman, enjoying offshore fishing, basketball, and tennis. Although a novice, he aspires to greater proficiency in golf. He has participated as a counselor in the Boy Scouts of America, in which both sons achieved rank of Eagle Scout. He volunteers in various church and civic organizations and has regularly served at Morristown’s soup kitchen. Dr. Seery’s hobbies include carpentry and gardening.
